Using PRIDD
Who can use PRIDD?
PRIDD is validated for use in adult patients with any dermatological condition.
PRIDD is free for clinicians and patients to use in dermatology consultation to aid evaluation and shared decision-making. Clinicians may use PRIDD in daily practice to more accurately capture the impact of dermatological diseases on their patients’ lives.
Patients with skin conditions may use the PRIDD tool at no cost to track the impact of treatments and therapies on their dermatological condition. When using PRIDD the patient’s score will be calculated and saved on the app or browser version for comparison over time. This information is useful to patients in conversations with their healthcare providers.
The tool is also available free to researchers, academics, students and patient organizations, who are using it for non-commercial research purposes. A license will be needed but there will be no fee charged. Learn more here: https://www.pridd.org/en/licensing
Pharmaceutical companies and for-profit organizations may use the tool in their studies and clinical trials with a licensing fee. You can learn more here. https://www.pridd.org/en/licensing
How to administer and score PRIDD?
PRIDD is a patient-reported outcome measure that should be completed by adult patients themselves. Proxy versions and child versions are not yet available.
Patients answer 16 questions about the impact their dermatological condition on their life. They are instructed to consider the impact in the last month and score each question 0 (never) through 1 (rarely), 2 (sometimes), 3 (often) and 4 (always).
Scoring
The items are answered in a 5-point rating scale that ranges from 0 (no impact) to 4 (maximum impact), except for one item that is answered in a 4-point scale.
PRIDD total score can range from 0 to 63, where higher scores indicate greater negative impact of dermatological disease on the patient’s life. The PRIDD measure provides a total score of the impact of living with a dermatological disease on the patient’s life.
Scores can also be obtained for the four domains of impact: Physical Impact, Life Responsibilities Impact, Psychological Impact, and Social Impact. A total score can be calculated by summating the four domain scores but there is greater value in seeing the relative scores across the areas of impact. Summated scores provide both a numerical value and can be categorised as having Mild, Moderate or Severe impact. Patients and clinicians can see at a glance how they score in relation to other patients with skin conditions.
Obtaining these scores is a two-step process. In the first step, raw scores are calculated by summing the score of each question. In the second step, raw scores are transformed into interval-level scores, using a conversion table.
If you are a researcher, you will be provided with detailed scoring instructions when you obtain a license for PRIDD. Please contact info@pridd.org for more information.
If you are a patient using PRIDD on the app or browser version, the scores are automatically calculated and saved to allow for comparison over time.
